Assistive Technology (AT) includes a continuum of tools that support people with disabilities in becoming more independent in their academic, professional, and personal lives. Determining what AT someone may need is a collaborative process that considers the individual’s strengths and needs, the environments they access, the tasks they complete each day, and tools that could provide support. This presentation will guide families through an assistive technology collaborative discussion framework that can be used to guide individuals, families, and schools in connecting appropriate AT tools to daily tasks that promote independence. It will also focus on teaching participants how to use this framework along with supplementary aids that can further support AT conversations. Participants will work collaboratively to move through this AT decision making framework to identify AT tools that their family members could use.
